5am. Out the door to catch the sunrise. It’s been a while since I’ve been to the beach this early in the morning. Down to Seaside point and the longboard girls are out enjoying the small but clean surf. Kamogawa pro longboarder, Mizue Oguri is a regular at 5am. Rain or shine, onshore or offshore, she’s out there.
朝5勤。
朝日が気持ちい清々しい朝。
シーサイドへ向かうと女性ロングボーダーたちが
小さいが面の綺麗な波を楽しんでいた。
雨だろうが晴れだろうが、オンショアだろうがオフショアだろうが、
いつも朝5時にはパドルアウトしているのが日課の
鴨川のプロロングボーダー小栗瑞恵。

Another morning face is Nozomi Matsumoto. Non chan has made a lot of progress recently and is surfing with style! Kamogawa’s up and comer surfer girl.
そして、もうひとりの朝の顔である松本望ことのんちゃんは、
スタイリッシュなサーフィンに加え、
ここ最近、短期間で急成長を遂げている
鴨川のアップカマー・サーファーガール。

Today’s morning session was called on by fellow Dove rider and recently turning pro, Chiaki Ikeda. Making her way from Kanagawa, Chiaki must have been awake and driving since 3am.
この日の朝のセッションは、
最近プロサーファーの資格を獲得したDOVEチームの池田千晶が
電話をくれたことから実現した。
3時起きの神奈川県から車を走らせてやってきた。

Next up were the boys. Pro longboarder, shaper, and fisherman, Takashi Sakuma caught a few before heading to the shaping room.
プロロングボーダーでシェイパー、フィッシャーマンでもある
佐久間崇氏も職場であるシェイプルームへ向かう前に
ここで朝一のセッションを堪能していった。

新しくシェイプしたロングボードをテストしていた関谷”トッコ”利博プロ。
見ていて自分も乗ってみたくなるほどかなり調子良さそうだった。

After the boys exchanged a few, I packed up and headed north to Onjuku to change the scenery. Small waves dotted the long stretch of beach and it was time to suit up and jump in the water for a swim. Local pro surfer, Masashi Uno had a short right and tossed up a little air for me.
シーサイドでも1セッションを終えた後、
一度機材を片付け車に乗り込むと、その足で少し北上。
御宿へと向かう。
湾曲した長いビーチには小波ながら形のいいピークが点在しており
早速カメラをハウジングにセットし、
ウエットスーツに着替えてスイムアウト。
御宿のローカルでプロサーファーの宇野将史が
さすがといった絶妙なタイミングとポジションでエアを披露してくれた。

A short swim down the beach to shoot some of the Onjuku uncles before the wind came up onshore.
風がオンショアに回るまでの短い時間であったが、水中撮影に没頭。

After a quick break it was back to Kamogawa Seaside to find Hiroshi Sato. He had just returned from a 2 month stay in Makaha and with the fishing expertise of legend waterman Rusty Keaulana, together landed a 350 pound marlin.
少し休んでから鴨川に戻ると、
シーサイドでプロロングボーダーの佐藤広と遭遇。
ちょうど２ヶ月間滞在していた
ハワイのウエストサイド、マカハから戻ってきたばかりだったようで、
サーフィンだけでなく釣りにおいてもエキスパートである
レジェンド・ウォーターマンRusty Keaulanaと一緒に
350パウンドのマカジキを釣り上げたらしい。

Seaside regulars Toshiki Koyama and Hiroki Hayakawa were up to their usual tricks in the small peaks.

シーサイドのレギュラーメンバーである小山俊樹と
colorsmagでもお馴染みのスタイリッシュなプロサーファー早川広起。

Today’s visiting surfers were Ai Kaneko and Diego Augusto Suguimati. Although the surf was really small, both looked to be having a fun surf.
金子藍プロとDiego Augustoが愛知県より鴨川を訪れていた。
波のサイズ以上に楽しそうに波に乗る姿が印象的だった。

Rounding off the afternoon session was long time Kamogawa surfer and friend Hiromi Hanazawa. Always fun to watch, Hanazawa san has a classic style!
クラシックスタイルを持つ花澤祐美のサーフィンは、いつ見ても飽きない。
