One of the best things about living in a small but popular surf city is that I get to meet new people all the time. Especially in the winter months when surfers come from colder waters to enjoy the sunny life in Kamogawa.\u00a0The first question most people ask me is “Where are you from”? When I say “Maui”, I get the shocked look and the second question “Why Japan”? My answer is always the same. I point to the blue ocean and surf, I turn around and point to the green mountains and colorful plants, then I say “It’s the same. The locals are friendly and the food is great. This is my home away from home. Kamogawa saiko”!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

A lot of surfers call Kamogawa their home away from home too.\u00a0<\/strong>Some have left the quiet city and moved to bigger cities for work, and others have been coming here for many years on weekends to get away from the city. But one thing is the same. We have a special respect for this surf city and treat it as our home.\u00a0This past weekend was a good mix of locals and visitors, all enjoying the Kamogawa life.\u00a0<\/em>A little crowded, but fun waves were around.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Local professional long boarder, Hiromichi Ishii, gets caught behind on a busy peak.<\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
